My 5yo. pit bull has skin prblems. He gets itchy and flaky. Is it safe to use Neutrogena T/Gel shampoo on him?

I don't know about the Tgel but I HIGHLY recommend a product called Septiderm lotion for the condition you describe. I have used it often for really bad skin conditions on dogs and cats, it has cleared up hot spots that previously would have required an oral antibiotic course of therapy. It is water based and smells nice and will soothe and comfort her itchy spots. The company also makes a Septiderm shampoo product which I have not tried. Note: the bottles look very similar so make sure you pick up the lotion and not the shampoo accidently. I checked online and Petco seems to carry this product. My 5yo. pit bull has skin prblems. Don't use T Gel on him. Instead ask your vet what they recommend. They might have a perscription shampoo that you can use. Or they might recommend something like head and shoulders or Selsun Blue (sp?). My vet has recommended these to people before, but it depends on what their skin condition is. It is best to see the vet so they can give proper suggestions, and maybe they can give you some ideas on how to get his skin and coat in a healthier condition, so you don't Have to use any special shampoo. My 5yo. pit bull has skin prblems. i definatly wouldnt.one of the first things they told us when we got our puppy was to not use any human products on her as her skins not thick like ours and can really irritate it.theres doggy shampoos and conditioners with like oatmeal and stuff to calm their skin and im sure theres products to rehydrate ur dogs skin
Dont use any human shampoo on a dog.Try Sulfodene med shampoo. You should check out your food.If it has corn wheat ect DONT feed it.Your dog may have an allergy. You will have to hunt for a good dog food.I feed Dog Lovers Gold. Its the best food out there. It will be avalible nation wide soon.
Stick with a dog shampoo or whatever your vet recommends. I find baby shampoo actually dries them out BADLY.

If the skin is inflamed, I'd recommend Earth Bath's Tea Tree and Oatmeal shampoo. The tea tree is an anti inflammatory and will help soothe his skin. If he's just got dry skin, I like to use Buddy Wash and Buddy Rinse (it's the only one I have tried that doesn't leave the dog dandruffy in winter). I think the key thing with Buddy Wash is it's a coconut based shampoo and not soap based.
omg no don't because it can actually harm your dog

plus it will be cheaper just to go to a pet shop and get dog shamphoo i also recomend not washing your dog too often because this can also irritate the skin
I would suggest not using human shampoo on your dog as this can actually irritate the skin further. At your local pet store, or your vet's office, you should be able to obtain a dog shampoo for his skin issues. There are also certain dog foods which will promote healthy skin, and you should ask your vet about this as well if the shampoos alone don't help.
Ask your Vet to recommend something more milder... Human shampoo is not made for Dogs...way too harsh...
NO!!! A dog's ph level is much lower than ours and you should never use human products on him at all. If I were you I would add a little vitamin E and brewer's yeast to his diet to help him to overcome his problem skin. Also a little fish oil would be good as well and as for the brewer's yeast being good for his coat it also repells fleas so you don't have to worry about having to use any kind of harsh chemicals on him. All the best. Oh and for now just go to the local pet store and pick up some unscented mink oil and give him a good spray and brushing. All the best!
No its too strong for his skin, try a gentle dog shampoo or baby shampoo. Best thing is to call your vet and ask what can you do to help with his skin problems.
